Giftcardage
Dec. 18th, 2006 08:37 amI went to my company's big Christmas party on Friday night and had a decent, but exhausting time.
There were a lot of people there and it made me realize that the office's layout kept me from getting to know many of them. Everybody's divided up into cubes with high walls or blocked off by the building's weird design.
I did manage to win a $100 gift card during the evening. I'd have preferred the high definition TV they raffled off, but a gift card I can use anywhere is still nice. I'm still trying to figure out who or what I should spend it on, but it should probably be a gift for someone else.
The club where the party was held was interesting, and a bit crowded. I ended up leaving early because the music was too loud for me to tolerate for long.

Yeah, loud music isn't for everyone. Here's hoping you had a great time, anyway! ^.^
Take care, dude. :-)

Date: 2006-12-18 05:33 pm (UTC)I was thinking family or a good friend. I may even take a cue from a former coworker and give the money to charity in another person's name.
I seem to be unusually sensitive to sound, especially certain frequencies. The party was definitely fun since I got to know the people around me a little better.

Date: 2006-12-18 08:59 pm (UTC)How big is your company? It's a lot harder to get to know people from other departments in large companies then it is in little ones. Did you get a chance to get to know anyone there?
Congrats on the win. It's very generous to spend it on someone else, too. I've only gotten really lucky once in one of those draws.
I'm really bad in clubs, I can't hear anything over the music and background music, so I can't have any sort of conversation.

Date: 2006-12-18 09:11 pm (UTC)Thanks, and I think I've figured out whom I should spend it on.
That's usually the trouble I have. Shouting, "What?," all the time gets old really fast.

Date: 2006-12-19 01:08 am (UTC)That's a bit shitty, you sould make a resolution to get to know them better. Maybe you could go for lunch with them or something - they have to be nice to you, you're the new guy!!!
w00t for winnage! Shame about the TV, but at least you can give that gift card to someone. What store is it for, anyway?
That's when you need to just get wasted and dance like a retard! Preferable with your tie around your forhead a la Rambo! At least that's what I would have done.....but I'm very....special :-S

That's the best part. It's an American Express gift card, so it can be used almost anywhere.
T…ie? We have a business casual dress code (I even get to wear jeans on Fridays), so I'm free of those nooses. Noise actually keeps me from functioning in most cases. It invades my skull, knocking out any attempt at thought.
