It wasn't the way you entered the link, it was the code on the other side of the link that kept executing. I had 20+ IE windows open at one point.

This wasn't just "weird", I would call it malicious. And yes, I realize that you didn't know it was going to do that.

I was confused, but it was an understandable reaction. That advertising technique is annoying and a potential vector for malware.
