Went to my parents' place over the weekend to celebrate my sister's birthday. I got to meet a few more of her friends, one of whom was really cute. (Think [livejournal.com profile] the_zookeeper if you swapped a bit of his height for a thicker build.)

My Wii provided a few hours of fun, mostly because my uncle had trouble with billiards on Wii play, and me sucking at golf on Wii sports.

I ended up staying about an hour later than I planned thanks to the gift bought- Muppet Show season 2. We watched the last episode of the season, where the pigs take over, and the first sketch from the Bob Hope episode. My sister loves the end of the Pig Calypso number because she hates Piggy. ("The frog has come to have his say/the pig will never get her way/bib and napkin, knife and fork/is the only way that I'll touch pork")

Apparently, my sister was at the horribly delayed Tigers game on Friday, which was also her birthday. She ended up staying until 3:30 in the morning because the game went into extra innings on top of the four-hour delay. Not that she had much say in the matter. It was her employer's annual trip to a game, and she took the bus they chartered.

Oh, and my grandmother got a new computer. It should be interesting to see what she got. Hopefully, it's not infected with Vista. :::Shudders:::

I also changed things up a bit at the gym recently, but that works better under a cut.

Chest/Biceps

4 compound sets of incline dumbell press & flat dumbell press

4 drop sets of pushups (feet on a bench, flat, then hands on a bench)

4 compound sets of barbell curls & hammer curls

3 drop sets of inclined dumbell curls (3 drops)

Legs/Shoulders

4 compound sets of squats and the leg press

drop set of one-legged deadlifts (3 drops)

4 compound sets of shoulder presses & seated lateral raises

3 drop sets of reverse flys (3 drops)

Back Triceps

4 compound sets of high rows & lat pushdowns

3 drop sets of seated cable rows (3 drops)

4 compound sets of cable overhead extensions & tricep pushdowns

3 drop sets of skullcrushers (3 drops)

So far, this has been an interesting routine. The compound sets have me moving through the exerciss quicker since they're like an abbreviated superset, and the drop sets kill whatever bodypart I'm working. My only complaint is that the leg press takes forever to load and unload.

My weight has been going up at a slow but steady pace, and I'm thinking of low-carbing for a bit to burn away some stubborn areas of fat. Supposedly, the low carb thing will make me cranky, so that should be fun.

It's not even that hard to imagine now that I've gotten fatter in the last 2 months! -__-

This guy wasn't fat. He was just thick and big-boned.

Sibling's cute friends = awkwardness! Have I mentioned my bro in law is hawt? x.x

DROP SETS ARE THE WORK OF THE DEVIL. I only did those when the trainer made me. I can't believe you're doing them voluntarily XD
I also recently changed my workout around now that I can't afford the trainer anymore, we'll see if it works. I DO know I've been sore as hell lately x.x

Yeah, but at least I had something fun to [discreetly] stare at.

They seem to do the trick. I've been sore often enough that I feel weird when I'm not.

Since you don't have the trainer any more, let me know if you ever feel like discussing gym stuff. I think I've learned what works and what doesn't.

Hey, in case you're wondering about the random guy who added you, I'm another fan of lifting and felids. I saw you somewhere on LJ; can't remember where.

Interesting to see back/tris and chest/bis together; seems like I usually see back/bis and chest/tris, probably because of wide-grip pull-ups and dips, respectively. But it's not as if there's a single optimum workout plan. Maybe I'll give what you're doing a try, as I've been in a rut for a while, although I don't think I'll ever be able to give up pull-ups. :)

Actually, I hadn't realized anyone had added me. I do most of my Livejournal reading through RSS feeds, and don't check much beyond the posts they pick up.

Interesting. My understanding was that those pairings were desireable because triceps tend to get used when working the chest and biceps get used more when working the back.

Changing your routine periodically is a good idea. The body can get used to doing the same stuff every time.

See, that's the problem, being discreet is no fun XD

Oh, there's no denying they work at making sore. They're just HORRIBLE.

Judging by the past two weeks (erg), the workout plan he gave me before I had to bail seems to be working (ow) pretty well (:::stretch-groan:::). But sure, if you want to discuss pain workouts, I'm up for it.

True, but I didn't have much of a choice since some of the people there shouldn't know my preferences under any circumstances.

Can't argue with that. They are evil

If you're feeling sore with the latest plan, you should be set for the next month or two. That trainer's methods are something I'd like to hear about, though. My experience with that second trainer gives me a nagging feeling that you might be having the same trouble I had.
