Tonight, I found out that my smoke detectors work when I was cooking some rice and neglected to turn on the oven vent. At least nothing burned and it drowned out the upstairs neighbor's throbbing bass noises (I refuse to call that garbage music).

The only downside is that I wasted a few minutes finding a chair to reach the smoke detectors, only to discover that they don't have an off button. What's even weirder is that they didn't go off the one time I actually did burn something.

NONE OF THEM have an off button! You have to wave a piece of cardboard in front of them to get them to fuck up! It's sooooo annoying!!!

The battery powered ones do, but not the ones wired into the electrical system. I know that from years of experiencing my mom cooking bacon.

"Tonight, I found out that my smoke detectors work"

That's just one of the most D'OH! ways to open a conversation XD

Glad it wasn't for a serious reason...

So was I. The place also has sprinklers, and the would have ruined my computers if they went off.

I also encountered another "fun" apartment problem thanks to a letter I received, but I think that's more of a friends-only post since it might involve ranting and potential emo stuff. Plus, I think it's going to get resolved quickly and painlessly.
