Long overdue update
Nov. 30th, 2006 09:05 amMy internet connection was hooked up Monday afternoon, just in time for Metroplex to flake out and eventually have its network card die. Unfortunately, my wireless router stopped routing, and Laserbeak doesn't do any better when hooked directly to the cable modem. They connect (I get an IP address and DNS server information), but can't seem to reach anything outside my home. Oh well, at least I have cable now.
Thanksgiving was the usual game of avoiding my grandmothers' nosy questions and hearing one complain about how people today "lack respect". The food was good, even if my mom put an odd twist on things by making less food than usual for no apparent reason. She has a big, new oven and made less food.
I picked up some of my accumulated mail (Including a summons for jury duty), and a few things I forgot when I moved, or just didn't have time to pack. My Lego (Useless fact: The plural of "Lego" is "Lego" still need to be collected, and my Gargolyes Season 1 DVD set is missing, but I think I have everything else I wanted to take.
Going through my old junk was an interesting experience. Some of the stuff felt like it was owned by another me.
*Edit* And I also found out that someone on Travian started farming my city shortly after I checked my account on Monday. How do they always manage to attack me when I can't retaliate?

Date: 2006-11-30 05:37 pm (UTC)Family gatherings are always ... 'interesting,' ne?
I remember digging through my old stuff every time I move. It's amazing how much you can forget having, and some times want to forget having ^_^
Being farmed really bad, you should see if someone in your alliance can help you out. You also might want to get someone to be a sitter for you, for when you can't get on.

Date: 2006-11-30 05:56 pm (UTC)Mine definitely are, and I just realized that my maternal grandmother didn't share any new info on my cousin's wedding. Supposedly, the plan has changed to having a very small ceremony in LA and a bigger reception in Chicago (His fiance is from there). I'll be disappointed things change since I was looking forward to going to California, and decided against FC because I think I can only afford one big trip like that in a year.
Some of the stuff made me realize how much I've changed.
Yeah, I definitely need to arrange for a sitter, and get some help from my alliance (The guy hit me with about a hundred troops). I've been getting by using my cellphone connection over the last couple of weeks, but something in the code makes it impossible to attack from there. The weird part is that people were leaving me alone until this. I almost got my Heroe's Mansion to Level 10 when that guy found me.

Date: 2006-11-30 08:30 pm (UTC)Other than my grandmothers being pests, I enjoy the family gatherings at this time of year. It's one of my few chances to see my aunt, and I occasionally get to see my uncle, other aunt, and my cousins.
Especially since I'll have to go into the depths of downtown Detroit to serve if I can't get out of it. The last time I got jury duty was about four years ago, and was one of the few times I've become lost.
It makes more sense if you've played a real-time strategy game on a computer.

Date: 2006-12-01 06:36 pm (UTC)I'd love to see what all the Thanksgiving fuss is about some time. You people seem to get sooooo wound up about it... Sorry your Gran gave you the third degree ^^;;
Other useless fact: "Lego" is danish for "play good."
Another you? Do elaborate.

Date: 2006-12-01 07:00 pm (UTC)It's basically a huge meal with relatives you don't see very often, usually making you thankful that you rarely see them.
It's mostly my paternal grandmother who bugs me, but together they synchronize being annoying. I guess I should be thankful that I still have both of them around. They're both over 80. (One turned 85 on the 22nd. The other turned 83 on the 3rd.)
I actually knew that.
It was mostly going through old, accumulated papers and junk and finding stuff that I knew I had, but felt very disconnected from what I was like when I got it. Most of the junk was things that I must have just tossed somewhere, not knowing what else to do.
You're just now figuring out that I'm a nerd?
I like you too.
