My family has a rather strange Thanksgiving tradition. We name the turkey, usually after a family member; unfortunately, we ran out of relatives this year and had to resort to other names.
A few years ago, my family decided to try something different by spending Thanksgiving with my mother's relatives. Other than my aunt catching something that kept her from coming with my uncle and cousins, that plan went rather well.
During dinner, conversation naturally turned to how my cousins' grandfather was doing. My middle cousin said that his grandfather was fine, but the flu was going around the nursing home when he visited.
At this point some of us became concerned that my middle cousin might be carrying the flu. Trying to eliminate our concern, my older cousin added, "Don't worry. We had him sterilized."
I try to be thankful for what I have throughout the year, but it's good to have a day to celebrate what we have. I'm thankful for my friends (both new and old), my family, my health, having a roof over my head, and having food to eat. I really shouldn't be complaining so much since there are a lot of people without those things.
