Bodhi Day

According to Mahayana tradition, this is the day Buddhists commemorate the enlightenment of Siddhartha Gautama.

I've always thought Buddhism was an interesting religion. (Technically, I find all religions interesting because my history teacher in high school presented the material so well, but that's a subject for another post.) It doesn't require a belief in a creator god, has little dogma or theology, it stresses self-dependence and self-salvation, and sees ignorance as the greatest obstacle to salvation.

I'm not sure what else to write on the subject, so I'll just see what sort of discussion arises from peoples' comments. (Don't be afraid to comment. The entire point is to start some interesting discussion.)

You've illustrated several reasons why I've sort of "adopted" those aspects of Buddhism into my own belief system. :-)

That's good to know. I've tried to incorporate those aspects into my own beliefs as well.

Hope you don't mind me shying away. I *never* participate in religious topics, no matter how benign. Always paranoid of such.

I don't mind at all. A lot of people aren't comfortable with the topic, but I figured I should provide the opportunity just in case.
